Chapter 3 - Part 1
Part 1 - Rain
Convincing Dana that he had found the Princess unconscious and feverish in the royal gardens hadn’t been all that hard. In fact it was a rather reasonable explanation for the fact that he had appeared at the palace doors caring an unconscious, soaked Allana. He had thought up that excuse just moments before, and Dana’s concern towards the Princess’s well being immediately released him from any further explanations.
The difficult part, he had come to realize, was standing there, away from the Princess’s quarters, not knowing what was happening or how she was faring.
Denar watched his Prince, who had refused with a threatening glare his suggestion to get changed, and ate another grape, savoring its sweet flavor with a smile of contentment. He knew Elian all too well to know it was no use trying to talk to him when he was like that. He could easily... read more ❯

Part 10 - Fiery Waters
The palace had been left behind some time ago when the compact trees gave way to a beautiful lake. Looking over his prisoner’s shoulder, Elian could easily understand why his horse had chosen that spot. He had always liked places like that, near water, where the grass was fresher and tender.
The lake in front of him had silvery waters that reflected the fiery tones of the sky above their heads. Fed by some of the Silver River tributaries, its waters were fresh all year, resisting the dry seasons when even some of the cities wells went dry.
Elian dismounted, reaching up to help his prisoner, but he refused his offer with despise, jumping down on his own. With effort, he took off his black gloves and pulled off the helm that covered his head, face and neck.
“Oh! Should I be surprised? My opponent is … a... read more ❯

Part 9 - A Sore Loser
Finding Allana’s room wasn’t at all that difficult. However the girl wasn’t inside. He had been quite sure that she would stay put in her room, at least until the bruises on her face faded away, but apparently he’d been wrong. And so, even though he knew that he shouldn’t, he entered her chambers in search of some kind of clue that would point him in the right direction.
The reddish light of the sunset led him towards the window, which remained opened, the wind gently plying with its curtains. Peering outside a smile touched his lips as he found her escape route. In there, fixed against the palace walls, was a metallic ladder hidden beneath a beautiful and lush ivy. Easily climbing over the window, Elian went down the stairs and, once back on the ground, looked at his surroundings. He knew that place.... read more ❯

Part 8 - Mádon's Fall
During the afternoon, and by Dana’s decree, Selina served them as guide, as they visited the city. Since it had been Dana’s suggestion no one had been able to really refuse, even though Elian had little desire to spend all afternoon in a meaningless walk.
His mind was distant, lost in thoughts, his feet moving almost automatically. And so Denar had to take his place in weaving compliments and comments every time the young girl shared some kind of information regarding the places they passed by.
When the visit was finally over Selina bowed respectfully and left them in the main hall. Denar sighed, seating heavily on the couch, too tiered from the constant acting, and watched Elian as he seemed to wake up from his sleepwalking mode.
“They’re coming,” he suddenly stated in a low voice.
“They…? Who are they?” the Knight asked, straightening his back as he... read more ❯
